Sewasew Genet Charity and Development Organization.

SEWASWE GENET (LADDER TO HEAVEN)

The main and primary objective of this NGO is to help and give hope to those that are not able to support themselves due to age, mental sickness and lack of parents. It also supports young students who come from far places in search of education (kolo temaris) who were spending the night without shelter and feed themselves by begging. All these group of people could be productive forces of the society if they get proper support, basic health care and the education they are seeking for. The secondary objective is to the try to make the organization sustainable by launching some income generating projects. There are two projects that are started and they are at a very infant stage. They need technical as well as financial support from donors to make them successful. Once they are successful, the organization may become self-supporting and other similar project could be launched elsewhere with the same objective.

Sewasew Genet Charit & Development Organization
Aba Kefyalew (Founder & CEO of Sewasewe Genet)

A monk, called Aba Kefyalew who migrated from Harar Region to the Debre Libanos Monastery was initially engaged in raising funds for the construction of churches around the Monastery. While doing so, he observed those poor people who were extremely old; who had mental disabilities of all kinds and children who do not have parents or close relatives. This group of people were passing day and night without shelter, food and clothing around the monastery. They sustain by handouts from willing individuals who were aware of their existence. Since they were living away from the place they could be easily seen, they were not easily visible to ordinary donors. Aba Kefyelew diverted his engagement of raising funds for the construction of churches, to helping this group of people. Initially he managed to get land that is easily accessible to the public which is located on the main road side on the way to Baher Dar just 100 kms from Addis Ababa. This place is about 5 kms away from the Monastery.
